Chick Fil A - Parkersburg

This isn't a frugal post (they are regular price) but I thought it was absolutely adorable anyway.  Chick Fil A-Vienna self standing location is offering these adorable biscuits for a limited time.

Grand Central Mall Train

Grand Central Mall has a new kids ride the Grand Central Express and I have to admit, we were among the first in line.  :-)  The train ride begins in front of JCPenney and goes clear around the mall with no stops and ends right back in front of the play area where it began.  It's $3 a person for the 5-6 minute ride and children under 36 inches must ride with an adult (kids under 2 are free with adult).  Enjoy this video of the ride. 

It's open from 11:00-6:00 on week days and on Sundays from 12:00-6:00 pm

They do charge a fee if you use a credit card so I recommend having enough cash with you.

Holiday in the Park (City Park, Southwood Park)

The Christmas lights are on in City Park and Southwood Park in Parkersburg!  City park has added Tow Mater, Shrek, and Scooby Doo to their already large grouping of lights this year.  Also, see if your family can find all 12 of the days of Christmas throughout City Park.

Displays will be lit from 6:00-10:00pm nightly through Dec. 31 and on weekends (beginning Dec. 3) a horse drawn carriage ride will be available to take you through the displays

Also, letters to Santa can be dropped off at the City Park Pavilion drop box.  Each letter will be answered with a return letter so be sure and put the return address.

Head here to see all the amazing things you will be able to sample this weekend during the weekend sampling event.  My family loves this event every year.  Great time to try new things that we wouldn't normally buy for FREE!!!  Somehow 4 year olds are much more likely to try things when they are in a little sample dish.  :-)  They will also have recipes and cooking specialists who will help you learn how to cook their products the best possible way. 

West Virginia Roadkill Cook-Off----Marlinton, WV

I read this in Readers Digest and I just had to share.  This is a real event taking place on September 24 in Marlinton, WV.   You can read all the details here.  Dishes will included splat cat and smeared hog with groundhog gravy.  I mean, what could be more fun than that?  :-)

Fox Idol competition

Know any great singers in the Mid-Ohio Valley between the ages of 15 and 28?  Encourage them to try out for the Fox Idol competition at the mall on Saturday.  Auditions are at the mall between 10:00-2:00 TOMORROW (July 8)  Full details and rules here.

The prize is $300 PLUS a guaranteed audition for the real American Idol in front of their producers, 2 night stay in Pittsburg (where the tryouts are), and 2 tickets to the Idol summer tour in Columbus!

DISCLAIMER-we have been to this event many times and have had COMPLETELY different visits each time . . . sometimes the samples are amazing (three full size Poweraide for free!!) and other times the samples are few and far between and the deals none to be had.  If you are in the area and bored then by all means, check this event out (as we probably will) . . . I wouldn't make a special trip though.

Vienna, WV Public Library offers Summer fun program

Vienna Public Library is sponsering a summer reading program again this summer.  There are reading logs available in the library for every age group from 2 year old through adults.  When you read the specified number of books for your age group; you turn in your log for a chance at some great prizes.  The logs are already out and ready to be filled out so get started reading right away.

In addition they will be having "story hour" type events for children of all ages this summer.  For a complete list click here.  I'll try to feature them again several times this summer as a reminder of some of their best events.
