Kids Bowl Free

Select Bowling lanes around the country are offering free bowling to kids this summer.

Children whose age does not exceed a limit by a participating bowling center are eligible to register for 2 free bowling games a day, all summer long, courtesy of the participating bowling centers along with the schools and organizations.


Go to this website for more details on the bowling alleys participating (unfortunately only Bluefield and Grafton, WV are participating).  In the Mid Ohio Valley the Go here to register your child to bowl at the North Hills Lanes in Marietta, OH.  You will receive their bowling coupons by e-mail each week.  Shoe rental and the cost of adults to play along is not included, but this would make for a great, cheap activity on a rainy summer day.

Williamstown Pool

The Williamstown Healthy Lifestyle Swimming Pool is scheduled to open at 2:45 p.m. June 8 and has waterslides, a shaded kiddy pools and a large swimming area.

Hours--12:00 Noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday with night swim from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Monday and Wednesday. Evening rentals and theme nights will be available Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Daily Rates--???

Season Passes will be on sale at the city building at 100 W. Fifth St. and at the pool. The sale will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 16, 23 and June 6.  The passes will be sold at a discounted price with family passes (for up to five people) at $170 and single passes being sold at $80. The regular prices are $180 and $85, respectively. The discounted prices will be available through June 9.

City Park and Southwood Park Pools (Parkersburg, WV)

The pools in Parkersburg City Park (diving board) and Southwood Park (lap lanes and hillside waterslide) will open on June 9.

Hours- 12:00 noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Cost-$3.50 for children ages 4-years-old to 12-years-old and $4 for 13-years-old and up

Scrappin Saturday at Crafts 2000

If you are a scrapbooker you will certainly want to check out Scrappin Saturday this Saturday (May 21) at Crafts 2000.  From noon to 5 their classroom will be set up with scrapbook "tools" for your use.  Registration is required at the Service desk and a $5 fee will be charged.  With your fee, however, you will also be given a $10 off any $10 purchase in the store on Saturday.  So, if you have some craft supplies to buy you would be better off to register and get the coupon to save 50% of your $10 order even if you don't scrapbook.  :-)  Remember that you must PRE register though in store BEFORE Saturday noon!

Blennerhassett Island opens for business

Blennerhassett Island is once again open for the summer.  The island itself is free but you must pay for the sternwheeler ride to the island.  Tickets are $8 for adults and $7 for children 3-12.  The Sternwheeler docks at Civitan Park in Parkersburg and leaves every hour from around 10-4:30 (call 304-420-4800 for daily schedule).  Also, you can find up to date info in this website.

While on the island you can do mansion tours ($4 for adults/$2 for children), horse drawn wagon rides ($5 a ticket), and bicycle rentals ($4 per hour for adults/$2 for children)

Rendezvous on the River will be occurring  from May 11-May 14 which will bring muzzle loaders and mountain men to the island to recreate frontier life with authentic camps, demonstrations, and period dress.

Home Depot Kids Workshops

Home Depot Kids Workshop will be held this weekend at all Home Depot stores from 9-noon. They will be making a tulip planter for Mothers Day this week.  Workships are designed for children ages 5-12. Go here for more details, but no sign up is necessary.

"The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment. Additionally, this fun time allows for quality one-on-one time between adults and children."

In addition to the newly constructed project kit, each child receives a kid-sized orange apron, similar to The Home Depot associates' aprons, and an achievement pin.
