Home Depot Kids Workshops

Nothing planned for Saturday morning? Why not head over to Home Depot for their free Kids workshop.

It's a free "how to" workshop designed for 5-12 year olds. This week (May 1st) they will be making a picket fence planter to take home. In addition to the project to take home, each child will receive a kid sized apron and an achievement pin. The workshop is between 9:00 and 12:00 at all Home Depot stores. Check it out here for more information. What a great activity to take your child to for a little parent/child one on one time. Maybe you will both learn something? :-)

Thomas the Train Play Date at Toys R Us

Thomas the Train Play Date will take place this Saturday, April 17th from 11am-1pm at all Toys R Us locations.  They will have storytime, games, trivia, special offers and coloring fun.  Click here for official information (page 5).

Disclaimer-we attended this event at the Parkersburg location last year and were very diappointed.  We did get a free train conductor hat, coloring book and some Thomas coupons but we were unimpressed.  They had a table set up just inside the door of Toys R Us with a book that you could read to your child, some crayons and coloring books, and some free hats.  There were no other kids there and no adults manning the table to encourage the kids or anything.  We are not huge Thomas fans so we were unimpressed.  Perhaps other Toys R us do a better playdate?  Or maybe if we really loved Thomas we would be really excited about the free stuff . . . I doubt we will make the extra trip this year . . . might be good for true Thomas fans or anyone who happens to be out and near their Toys R Us this weekend.

Online Reading for School age children

I discovered a great online reading site today for school age kids.  Its called Disney Digital Books and can be found here.   It has TONS of disney books online for reading, over 500 to be exact.  You can choose your reading level, get definitions of words you don't know, and even design and write your own books.  It's all Disney characters and books but there are tons of stories to choose from to read.  As a former teacher, I especially love that while you are reading they stop now and then and give you a comprehension question.  If you get it right you earn points for your "bank" that can be traded in for awards later.  Use this code for a free two week sample (you will need an e-mail address but no credit card info.  FAMFUNMAR14

Chick-fil-A in Vienna, WV and Grand Central Mall locations are having Tax Relief Stimulus Week.  Each day there will be an offer for something for free.

Lowes Build and Grow Clinic

This week is an Earth Day project at the LOWES Build and Grow Clinic-FREE building clinic at all Lowes' locations. They will be making a See it grow planter. Sounds like a great spring project!  This would be a great daddy or mommy bonding project with your child (they are recommended for K and up). The clinic is from 10:00AM-11:00 AM on Saturday, April 17th. Each child will receive all the items needed for their game as well as a free apron, goggles, a project themed patch, and a certificate when they complete their project. Sounds like a great way to spend time together as a family learning something new together and getting some excersize at the same time.  I have never done anything like this before but would love to hear from those of you that have on whether your family enjoyed it and what ages it's most appropriate for.

River City Tavern and Grill-Kids eat free on Sundays

edit: I saw a sign this morning with a price list for Childrens' menu on Sundays . . . perhaps the new ownership does not plan to do free Sunday lunch anymore for kids.  I'll check into it and let you know ASAP.  Sorry if you were there today expecting free lunch for kids . . . Unadvertised K-Mart Super Double Coupons

K-mart is having super double coupons this week at most of their stores.  Check if your store is included on this list.  Both Parkersburg stores ARE participating but the rules are strict.

1. You MUST have a "Shop your way Rewards Card" available for free at the service counter or at Sears or online here.  GIVE THIS TO THE CASHIER before scanning your items.

2.  Coupons up to $2 will be doubled (making them worth $4 off)

3.  You can only use up to 5 coupons a day!

Many people are reporting that when they called their K-mart and asked they were told their store was NOT participating.  Others were told by a Cashier that they were not participating BUT . . .as long as you found your store listed on the official list, the cash registers were set to double as long as you follow the three steps above.  I took the risk today and all 5 of mine doubled perfectly.  I had two $2 coupons, two $1.50 coupons, and one $1 and they all doubled just fine with no conversation with the cashier at all.

See a list of potential free items here.  (I found that many of her prices were NOT the same as the prices at my store, but it's still a decent place to start).  I didn't get anything completely free because I found 5 coupons for things I actually needed to get this week so I had to skip the freebie stockpile for today.  Maybe another day.
