Home Depot Kids Workshops

Nothing planned for Saturday morning?  Why not head over to Home Depot for their free Kids workshop. 

It's a free "how to" workshop designed for 5-12 year olds.  This week (April 3rd) they will be making a real working butterfly house to take home.  In addition to the project to take home, each child will receive a kid sized apron and an achievement pin.  The workshop is between 9 and 12 at all Home Depot stores.  Check it out here for more information.  What a great activity to take your child to for a little parent/child one on one time.  Maybe you will both learn something?  :-)

Curious George Live

Probably not the most frugal thing I'll post on here, but this would be my son's idea of a fun day. Curious George Live is coming to West Virginia. There will be shows in Huntington on April 6-7 at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena and the tickets range from $12-$25 each. I have never seen this show so I can't say if it's good or not . . . let me know if you go and if it was worth the money.

Treasure Hunters Roadshow comes to Parkersburg

Starting TODAY Treasure Hunters Roadshow will be at the Comfort Inn in Parkersburg.  They will be set up there until Saturday.  This is a free event Tuesday-Friday from 9AM-6PM and Saturday from 9AM-4PM.  If you have antiques, gold, silver, guitars, coins or any other collectible you think might be worth some money bring it over and get a quote.  Sounds like one of those TV shows where someone comes in with something they bought at a yardsale and it's worth hundreds now.  :-)

Here are the details.
1. No appointment necessary
2. The item you bring is put into a collectors database and an offer is made to you on the spot.
3. If you decide to accept the offer you are paid right then and you leave your item to be shipped to the collector at their expense.

This is one of our families favorite frugal Saturday activities (I know, we are strange).  We visit our local Sams club (which you must be a member of) and try the samples.  We find that our 2 year old (and myself for that matter) are willing to try lots of new things when they are being offered to you in bite sized samples. 

On Friday and Saturday, March 26- 27 they will be having their "Catch the Game Grilling Event" with an extra large number of samples all based around the grilling theme.  Taste some new things, get recipie cards for great grilling foods, and maybe come home with some deals as well!  The event will go from 11:00 AM-7:00 PM at most Sams Club locations. 

My advice is go early if you want to try lots of stuff because each booth will close early if they run out of samples BUT, we have gotten there late and scored TONS of extra freebies (like a whole bottle of Gatoraide for each of us) when they have a certain number to give away and not enough interest.  Click here for official info.

Michaels free spring craft

If you have a Michaels near you then head on over there on Saturday (March 27) for a free craft event.  Bring your kids and create spring projects with NEW Crayola® Model Magic® Presto Dots™! While supplies last so head out there early for good seats and to make sure you get in.

Wood County (Parkersburg) YMCA Healthy Kids Day

If you can't find anything to do this Saturday you are crazy . . . especially in the Parkersburg area.  Wow, a ton of events going on.

YMCA healthy kids day is free to the public and will teach kids and their parents the importance of physical activity.  It will be from 9:00-12:00 on Saturday (March 27) at the YMCA on Broad St.

Doggy Easter Egg Hunt-March 27th - Bridgeport and Clarksburg 10:00AM
WVDogs has organized a Doggie Easter Egg Hunt Saturday March 27th at the Bridgeport Softball field behind the school and at the Clarksburg Dog Park at VA Park. Two events will be held the same day, so being your well behaved pet for a fun event. There will be plenty of eggs with doggie treats for your pet to find as well as some special prizes. All pets must be on a leash at all times. Times for the events are as follows: 10am Registration by donation. Egg hunt begins at 11am at Bridgeport Softball Field. Registration by donation will be from 2pm-3pm and the Egg Hunt begins at 3pm at the Clarksburg Dog Park. Proceeds will go toward improvements & development of the area dog park. STAND Strength Team comes to Parkersburg

STAND Strength Team is coming to the Elite Sports Center in Parkersburg.  This team will demonstrate feats of strength.  If it's anything like the teams I have seen like this before it is an AMAZING show and very upbeat and entertaining.  Shoneys  by Camden Clark Hospital (and likely other places as well) has VIP passes at their front desk that will get you a free autographed poster when you attend.  This appears to be a free show (accepting donations).  They will be at the Elite Sports Center (2000 First Ave., Parkersburg)

Charleston Area Easter Events

Governor And First Lady To Host Annual Easter Egg Drop On Capitol Lawn

Gov. Joe Manchin and First Lady Gayle Manchin invite children from across the state to join in the fourth annual Easter Egg Hunt from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 11, on the East Lawn and West Lawn of the State Capitol.

Children between the ages of three and 10 may participate, but tickets for the event are limited to the first 1,000 children. The free tickets are available by calling 304-558-3588, and they can be picked up at the State Cultural Center Tour Desk from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the day of the event.

Eggs and prizes will be provided for the kids and refreshments will be provided for all visitors. The Easter Bunny is expected to join in the day’s activities and the event will continue rain or shine.

Saturday, March 20 Toys R Us and Babies R Us locations are having a Pampers giveaway day.  I got an e-mail about it that says you can get a $20 Gift Card when you buy any two pampers value boxes with their new "dry max" stuff. 

The e-mail says they will be giving out free samples and having giveaways from 12:00pm-4:00pm while supplies last.  I honestly can't find anything on their website about this promotion so you might want to call your local Toys or Babies R Us to be sure they are participating.  This could lead to a good price on two big boxes of diapers and some other free stuff so if you have a baby in the house it would be worth the phone call.

This is a high value Planters Nuts coupon once again for facebook fans ($1.50 off 1 planters product).  (Seems every company is getting in on these recently).  Just become a fan on facebook here and then click on the NCAA Sweepstake tab for your coupon.  It should print twice per computer (hit the back button).  This would make for some cheap mixed nuts or maybe even free Trail Mix if you put it with a sale.

Wow, this is the first really great thing I have learned from doing this website.  Exactly what I had hoped for, Tracy (Parkersburg) let me in on a great deal that I had never heard about.  I can share it here for everyone else to read so we can all "share the wealth".  Exactly the reason I created this website!  Thanks Tracy for the first WV reader tip.

Auntie Anne's Pretzels has a Pretzel Perk Club that gets monthly e-mails with free coupons in them.  Sounds like you get one free coupon a month!  All you have to do is go here and sign up.  As soon as I signed up I immediately got a coupon in my e-mail inbox for buy one pretzel or pretzel dog and get a free original or cinnamon sugar pretzel.  Sounds like a cheap date for my hubby and I.  He loves the pretzel dogs and it's cinnamon sugar all the way for me!  :-)  I can't wait to see what I will get in the monthly e-mails.

Wood County Kite Festival (Mineral Wells, WV)

I have never heard of this before but I just saw it advertised on WTAP.com and it sounded really fun.  Be sure to call the contact number for more info before driving there . . . I have not seen this advertised anywhere but that one website.   (Also saw it in the FREE TIME in the paper)

Copycat Restaurant Recipes downloadable cookbook

I am not usually an online cookbook type person but this one looks really neat and has my favorite Red Lobster Cheddar Biscuits in it!!  It's a free download onto your computer and then you can save it to your hard drive, print it, or just use it as a reference when you are cooking.  This Third Volume has in it recipies from Red Lobster, Carrabba's, Cheesecake Factory and many more.  I can't wait to try them out!  Also check out Volume 1 and Volume 2 if you don't already have them downloaded to your computer.  Thanks Money Saving Mom for the information.

Head over here and get the coupon for $5 off ANY Monopoly game.  Assuming you don't actually want to buy a Monopoly game with your coupon, why not try out the new Monopoly Deal card game?  This game is marked down at Walmart for $4 and if you find a nice cashier you can take the full $5 off your total bill and actually "make" a doller for buying these cards.  Even if your cashier isn't feeling quite that generous you should still get the cards completely free.  You can print the coupon twice-just hit the back button.  These would be great for Easter baskets for older kids or to put in a package for a college student.  I will probably use mine to send in a package to my pastor who is serving overseas in the military.

Costco offers Free Samples

Head here to the Cosco site to sign up for some free samples to be sent to your house.  You can get a great sample of Lever 2000 soap that sounds like it will be a small bar perfect for travel.  I have also used these small bars as filler in boxes of stuff to send to the college students at my church . . . they always appreciate the gifts large or small.  You do NOT have to be a member of Cosco to get the sample (which is good since there are no Cosco's in West Virginia).

Wow, it pays to be on facebook recently . . . I just became a fan of Ritz Pretzel Crackers on facebook and signed up for a free sample sent to my home.  Just click on the box that says sample after you become a fan.  This size free sample is great for a little surprise in your husband, kids, or your own lunchbox to break up the routine a little.  :-)

K Mart Clearance Winter/Fall clothes $3.99

See the little yellow triangle in the top right corner of this ad?  Says all their winter clearance stuff will be on sale for $3.99.  Time to stock up for next winter!  I stopped by the Vienna K-Mart today and I was actually impressed with the amount of stuff lowered to this price.  Womens flannel pajamas, kids sweatshirts, womens shirts, MENS SWEATERS! . . . seemed to be clothing in all sizes and lots of options.  Keep your eyes open though, the stuff is not all together and is not all in the center aisles--you have to really search to find all of it.  The sale does NOT include winter coats or shoes though but those are marked down (looked like $9.99 and above) but I didn't see a great selection of these type items at the Vienna store.  If you go to a different K-Mart post a comment and let me know what deals you found so others can head to the store that benefits them most.  This ad/these prices seem to be across the entire state of WV click here to see if your store is included.

High Value Bacon Coupon

If you are like me and LOVE bacon then you will certainly want to print this coupon.  It's one of the highest value Bacon coupons I have ever seen.  Coupled with a sale, this could result in some really cheap bacon.  Head over to this site and tell them what you love about morning (man, I had trouble coming up with something on that one) and they will let you print your coupon. 

These coupons are NOT valid at Foodland (they don't take printable coupons) but Walmart, Kroger, Giant Eagle and most other grocery stores will take printable coupons just as easily as any other coupons.

Curious George Live

Probably not the most frugal thing I'll post on here, but this would be my son's idea of a fun day.  Curious George Live is coming to West Virginia.  The show will be in Wheeling at the WesBanco Arena Tuesday and Wednesday of this week (tickets are not sold out yet) and the tickets run from $9-$35 each.  There will also be shows in Huntington on April 6-7 at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena and the tickets to that one range from $12-$25 each.  I have never seen this show so I can't say if it's good or not . . . let me know if you go and if it was worth the money.
